  10. COMPATIBILITY STATEMENT
  11. JetFax Inc.'s JetFax II with DOS and Windows software has been tested 
  12. compatible with LANtastic version 4.x.
  13.

  15. PRODUCT OVERVIEW
  16. JetFax II provides network fax capabilities using a laser printer without the
  17. need of an internal fax board.  The JetFax hardware connects between an HP
  18. LaserJet II, III or compatible printer and the parallel or serial port on the
  19. PC.  Also, an outside phone line must be connected to the JetFax device to
  20. send and receive faxes.
  21.  
  22. The JetFax software allows network users to send fax's from an interactive menu-
  23. driven utility or within any application.

  26. INSTALLATION
  27. The PC which is equipped with the JetFax device and laser printer must be 
  28. configured as a LANtastic server (JetFax hardware server).  Both the DOS and 
  29. Windows versions of the JetFax software can be installed on the JetFax hardware 
  30. server, local workstation or other LANtastic server (JetFax software server).
  31. Install the software from the JetFax distribution diskette.
  32.  
  33. On each LANtastic workstation (or server that will be used as a workstation)
  34. which will use the JetFax system,  edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include:
  35.  
  36. DOS Installation
  37.  
  38.     Set Fax=<drive\directory>  where <drive\directory> is the drive and
  39.                 directory containing the JetFax software.  This may be a local
  40.                 or redirected (network) drive.
  41.  
  42.     Set Faxuser=<drive\user directory> where <drive\user directory> is the     
  43.         (personal) user configuration drive and directory.
  44.  
  45. DOS and Windows Installation
  46.  
  47. The DOS PATH must include the true path to the JetFax software.  This may be  
  48. either local (e.g. C:\JETFAX) or redirected (e.g. J:\JETFAX).

  51. OPERATION
  52. DOS
  53. The JetFax software has two components:  an interactive menu driven utility that 
  54. allows faxing of files in a flexible manner, or a terminate and stay resident
  55. (TSR) module that captures images from applications as they are "printed" to a
  56. redirected network port.
  57.  
  58. To start the TSR module from a WORKSTATION or SERVER:
  59.  
  60.     NET LOGIN \\<JetFax hardware server> <User-ID> <Password>
  61.     NET USE  LPT1 \\<JetFax hardware server>\<@ laser printer resource>
  62.  
  63.     If the JetFax software is not installed at the local workstation, then 
  64.     additionally:
  65.  
  66.     NET USE <available drive>: \\<JetFax software server>\<JetFax Directory>
  67.  
  68.     <available drive>:JFPOP /ELpt 1
  69.  
  70. This 9K TSR will capture output from LPT1 and convert it to fax format.  Faxes
  71. can, therefore,  be created from any application that supports printing to a
  72. laser printer.

  74. Windows
  75. JetFax Windows has two components: a fax program and a fax print driver.  The 
  76. fax program allows users to set individual options as well as send "quick
  77. notes", PCX, DCX and Tiff images.  The print driver can be accessed from any
  78. Windows application and allows the user to send any document while retaining
  79. fonts and graphic information.

  81. The Windows version requires no TSR.
  82.  
  83. Disabling the printer queue on the JetFax hardware server will stop all outgoing 
  84. faxes.

  87. SECURITY
  88. The fax phone book can be shared between users on the network.  You can use 
  89. standard LANtastic ACL security features to control access to fax phone books
  90. and logs.

  93. NETWORK DISCONNECTS
  94. JetFax formats the fax job to look like a LANtastic print job.  After a
  95. disconnect,  simply re-establish connection to the JetFax server.  Faxes
  96. not actually sent while using the Windows interface will be automatically
  97. resent.  Faxes not actually sent while using the DOS interface can be resent
  98. using the re-send option.
